RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Tracheal tumors are rare, they are most often malignant and can manifest themselves by a non-specific respiratory symptomatology with progressively increasing dyspnea orienting in the first place towards a COPD or even an asthma. Among them, tracheal lipoma is exceptional. Its management is based on removal by rigid bronchoscopy. OBSERVATION: We report the case of a 73-year-old male patient who presented with non-specific dyspnea that progressively worsened over several months. The EFR showed a flattening of the flow-volume curves, the CT scan showed an anterolateral oval tracheal tumor with fatty density, the bronchial endoscopy showed a tumor lesion with stenosis of about 90% of the airway. Management consisted of a rigid bronchoscopy to delete obtruction with biopsies. Anatomopathology concluded to a tracheal lipoma. CONCLUSION: Progressively worsening dyspnea, especially if there are signs of inspiratory dyspnea, required a systematic bronchial endoscopy to avoid the possibility of a tracheal tumor.

RESUMO

Ovarian cancer is rare in childhood. This explains why there are only scattered reports on it in the literature and why there is a lack of specific pediatric treatment. This paper gives an overview of the Belgian data from 2004 to 2013 and reviews the literature. To index ovarian masses and malignancies in children better in the future, worldwide data collection should be improved and reproducible definitions of 'childhood', 'malignancy' and 'ovarian mass' need to be adopted.

RESUMO

Shugoshin is a protein conserved in eukaryotes and protects sister chromatid cohesion at centromeres in meiosis. In our study, we identified the homologs of SGO1 and SGO2 in Arabidopsis thaliana. We show that AtSGO1 is necessary for the maintenance of centromere cohesion in meiosis I since atsgo1 mutants display premature separation of sister chromatids starting from anaphase I. Furthermore, we show that the localization of the specific centromeric cohesin AtSYN1 is not affected in atsgo1, suggesting that SGO1 centromere cohesion maintenance is not mediated by protection of SYN1 from cleavage. Finally, we show that AtSGO2 is dispensable for both meiotic and mitotic cell progression in Arabidopsis.
